Computers and Society

Hello all! :)

We are starting a computer project, and from next lesson you will have to research how have computers affected the way our society works.

Ideas of things that can be discussed include:
• Car manufacturing, newspapers, book publishing.
• Hospitals
• Internet: access to information (wars, politics, wikipedia, visiting museums, etc.)
• Online shopping
• Hacking
• Banking
• Shops
• Travelling
• Tourism
• School
• Supermarkets
• Offices
• Factories
• Eating habits

The project must be finished by Tuesday 29th of September. That day it will be presented to the class.

The mark for each student will be based on an average of the following:
□ Presentation of their part of the work to the class. (15%)
□ A group mark coming from the layout of the final group piece of work. (15%)
□ An individual mark coming from their written part of the project; including pictures (70%)

Don't forget that copy-paste is forbidden!

First term topics and assesment

Hello everyone!

The topics that we will cover during the first term are:

-- Creating your own blog at “blogspot.com“
-- Spreadsheet (Excel) skills

The assessment policy for the first term is:
Average of all tests and projects = 80%
Classwork = 20%

Important: Marks will be adjusted up or down depending on attitude and effort!(+-20%)

It is recommended to have installed Microsoft Office 2003 (English version) to work at home, as it is the one we use at school. Some time during the year we will change to OpenOffice, but don't know when yet.
Anyway, don't forget you have access to the computer room every day during the lunch break to work on the subject.
